Trail Run 5 miles

The trail run is a separate event from the triathlon and provides an off-road option that is less committing than the full triathlon.  The 5 mile course will trace most of the first lap of the mountain bike course, marked on the bike course map below.  We expect all racers to finish before the start of the triathlon.

Aid Stations

There will be 10 aid stations located along the triathlon course and 1 aid station along the Trail Run course.  Each aid station will be stocked with PowerBar, Gatorade Endurance Formula and Ice Water.  Medical assistance will be available at each aid station.

The swim will take place in the cool clear waters of Lake Leatherwood.  The route is in the shape of a large triangle.  Swimmers will start and finish on the beach near the swimming area, swimming in a counter-clockwise direction.  The water temperature in early June is typically above the 78 degree wetsuit cut-off.

The transition from swim to bike will consist of a flat 200 yard run on grass to the central transition area.

MOUNTAIN BIKE 13 miles

The trails are a mixture of single and double track are semi-technical and include challenging rocky terrain, steep climbs, and several fun and fast descents. See map and detailed route description below.

TRANSITION 2

The transition from bike to run will take place at the central transition area.  Same area where the swim to bike transition takes place.

TRIATHLON RUN 5 miles

The trail run takes place on the trails within the boundaries of the park.  The course will primarily follow the Miner's Rock Trail which contours around the mountains on the west side of the park.  There are two tough climbs on this route.  See map and detailed route description below.
